Thanos accepts his fate as he disintegrates. The effects of Stark's snap became instantly apparent as the Leviathan that was about to attack Rocket Racoon disintegrated. Soon afterwards, all of the Sakaarians, Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw and the remainder of Thanos' forces disintegrated.
As Thanos looked around in disbelief, he then sat down on a pile of wreckage, finally accepting his inevitable defeat as he disintegrated. Thanos' death meant the ultimate victory for the Avengers and indeed the whole world, and catastrophic ruinous defeat for Thanos and his army. After he snapped, Stark stumbled and laid down amongst a pile of wreckage. Iron Man dies from his inevitable sacrifice.
War Machine landed by his side and realized in horror that Stark's injuries from the Stones' raw power and gamma radiation were fatal; the right half of Stark's body was charred so badly that Stark could barely speak. Spider-Man also rushed toward Stark, proclaiming victory before tearfully realizing that Stark was dying. Stark's wife Pepper Potts joined War Machine and Spider-Man, and Stark managed to acknowledge her, placing her hand on his chest as a final gesture of love to his wife, who assured him of their victory.
Stark finally succumbed to his injuries immediately thereafter, and his arc reactor powered down for the last time, leaving Potts weeping, as Parker and the other Avengers looked on in sadness. The heroes attend Tony Stark 's funeral. Tony Stark was laid to rest at his riverside home, with all the allies he and his friends had made on their respective journeys attending. Happy Hogan comforted Morgan Stark during the funeral and asked if she was hungry.
Morgan responded to Hogan that she wanted cheeseburgers, with Hogan saying that her father loved cheeseburgers and he would get her all the cheeseburgers she wanted if it made her happy. Pepper then brought in a damaged Iron Man helmet with a message specifically for Morgan. Thor meets up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Thor decided that being a leader isn't who he is, so he passed his leadership role to Valkyrie , making her the new leader of New Asgard.
Thor decides to help the Guardians of the Galaxy. Star-Lord continues his search for the version of Gamora since she mysteriously disappeared after the battle.
Thor then joined the Guardians, asking their next destination, as he touched the map, but as Star-Lord made sure that he was in charge, the team assured a duel should take place. Thor and Star-Lord hesitantly declined the duel, laughing it off as Thor assured Star-Lord that he was in charge.
Steve Rogers goes back in time. Banner, Bucky Barnes , and Sam Wilson saw Rogers off as he used the Quantum Tunnel to return the items, with Banner stating that it would take him "as long as he needed" while for them only five seconds would pass. As Rogers disappeared through time, Banner prepared to return him on the count of five; however, after five, Rogers did not return, despite Banner's efforts. Fearing the worst, that perhaps he had failed somewhere, Banner and Wilson panicked, whilst Barnes noticed an elderly man sitting alone on a bench on the shore of the lake.
Barnes called Wilson over, who understood what the man meant immediately, walking over to reveal an aged Rogers sitting by a circular bag. Steve Rogers passes his shield to Sam Wilson. Rogers and Wilson spoke, where Rogers reveals that after completing his mission he instead chose to stay in the past and live the normal life Stark had previously spoken of.
Wilson congratulated him but stated that his only regret was living in a world without Captain America. In response, Rogers opened the bag next to him, which contained his shield. Rogers asked Wilson to try it on, bequeathing it to him.
Whilst shocked, Wilson accepted the honor and assured Rogers that he would do his best. As they shook hands, Wilson noticed a wedding ring on Rogers' ring finger and asked him to elaborate on his wife , to which Rogers simply told Wilson that he doesn't think he would, reminiscing upon a dance that he and Peggy Carter had in her home before sharing a kiss. The names of the Avengers who fell during both the Time Heist and the climactic battle that followed eventually became news around the world.

That came despite the heroes putting up far more of a fight against the Mad Titan than in Infinity War. Tony Stark and his allies on Titan came close to removing the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos hand, while Thor was one slight miscalculation from beheading Thanos during the Battle of Wakanda, and preventing the Snap from occurring.
Even Captain America — the least powerful of the Big Three -- fought off Thanos in Infinity War , despite not having his shield or, for that matter, Mjolnir, which became central to his Endgame battle plan. Scarlet Witch, for instance, seems far more of a match for Thanos' forces in Infinity War than in Endgame, despite that Wanda — herself a victim of the Snap — experienced both battles with no appreciable pause.
Clearly, the version of Thanos is far more of a threat to the heroes than his older counterpart. But Tony retired to raise a family; his combat instincts were dulled, and, despite the advanced armor he used in Endgame, he was comparative rusty. Thor, of course, fell apart after the Snap, and, while he was still worthy to wield Mjolnir, he had spent the previous five years drinking on the couch. After Bruce Banner in the Hulkbuster charged towards the villain, Captain America followed suit, but he wasn't able to even make contact with the villain using the Power Stone against him. Black Panther Chadwick Boseman also launched his attack, but Thanos caught him by the neck and used the same crystal to throw him to the ground.
Finally, after spending most of Avengers: Infinity War unbothered and focused on his video game, Teenage Groot Vin Diesel tried his luck against Thanos with the sentient tree creature trying to cage the villain using his elongated legs as well, but to no avail.
Thanos quickly got out of the entrapment with barely any effort. As previously discussed, Wanda wasn't even trying to keep her lover safe, instead, she was there to destroy the Mind Stone and kill him effectively to make sure that the Mad Titan could not get his hands on the final stone. So while Scarlet Witch was slowly disintegrating the stone on Vision's forehead, she was also simultaneously slowing down the Mad Titan. Ultimately, she succeeded in her goal, but with the help of the Time Stone, the villain reversed time, undoing the death of Vision and allowing him to acquire the Mind Stone — all while Wanda watched helplessly.
Fueled by her grief and anger over the death of Vision, she unleashed her powers against the Mad Titan who didn't remember her since its the version of the character. Using her ability to manipulate energies, she relentlessly attacked Thanos, stripping him off his armor and even breaking his sword.
Realizing that he could not fight her alone, the Mad Titan mandated to rain fire on the ground to save himself despite the move also hitting his own side. The God of Thunder's whole Avengers: Infinity War arc revolved around his expected face-off with Thanos after the villain killed half of his people, as well as, Heimdall Idris Elba and Loki at the beginning of the movie. However, he didn't get as much time against the Mad Titan as he confronted him after the villain had already got hold of all six Infinity Stones.
Still, Thor got the closest to killing Thanos — at least in the film. His Stormbreaker sliced through the power of the Infinity Stones and landed in the alien's chest. Regrettably, instead of quickly taking care of Thanos, Thor decided to gloat; this gave the Mad Titan just enough time to snap his fingers and execute his terrible galactic genocide.
Eventually, Thor was able to kill Thanos at the beginning of Avengers: Endgame , but it didn't mean much since the Infinity Stones were already gone, meaning they didn't have any other way to reverse the snap — at least at that point. Five years and a couple of hundreds of kilos after, Thor got another crack at the Mad Titan as he worked together with Captain America and Iron Man in the hope of properly killing him.
He also noticeably aimed for the head numerous times, proving that he learned his lessons from Infinity War. Her arrival on Earth motivated the heroes to go after the villain who retired to his garden after accomplishing his mission to restore balance in the universe.
Confident about her strength and power, she went on to ambush Thano and put him in a headlock; unfortunately, by the time she and the rest of the surviving heroes arrived, the Infinity Stones were gone and Thanos was at his weakest, frankly not caring whether he lived or died. From then, Carol went off-world again, helping other planets until she returned just in time at the end of the climactic battle in Endgame at Avengers HQ. There, she got another chance at the Mad Titan and this time, they were locked in an intense battle.
For a while, Captain Marvel was able to hold her ground, keeping the villain's fist open as she pulled the Infinity Gauntlet off him, but Thanos was clever, drawing from the Power Stone and using its incredible force to knock her down.
