What do wow servers look like

Players may create characters on any number of realms up to a maximum of fifty characters on an account. Characters cannot move between realms via in-game means. However, players may take advantage of free character migrations FCMs or paid Character Transfers to move characters between realms.

It is not possible to move characters between different regions. Exceptions to the above rules include Connected Realms , where multiple realms function as a single cohesive realm; cross-realm zones , where certain zones may feature characters from several different servers; and battleground , Dungeon Finder and arena instances, which may feature characters from separate servers.

One notable exception is the RealID and BattleTag systems, which allow players to invite other players from other realms to join their party. All characters in the party will be moved to the realm of the current leader and will function fully in that realm, including queuing for arena and instances.

There are currently four main types of realm available to players: Player vs. Environment PvE , Player vs.

Player RP-PvP. Each type of realm features a slightly different ruleset. Test realms are a special type of realm available for players to test features from coming patches. An actual realm server. This is one of the originals which were cleaned up and auctioned for charity in According to the North American realm status page, there are total NA realms. For Europe, there are English speaking realms, 87 German, 37 French, 11 Spanish, and 19 Russian, for a total of realms.

Abbreviated PvE , the player versus environment realm allows for a more relaxed style while in the world. PvE realms focus on player versus environment PvE play and depending on the location within the world, it is more difficult to initiate player versus player PvP combat on these realms. This type of realm is also referred to as a "normal" realm.

PvE realms are generally recommended for new players, since there is no risk of unwanted PvP combat or ganking from other players. Abbreviated PvP , the player versus player realm differs from the normal realm. PvP realms have an increased amount of player versus player combat, in the form of World PvP ; entering any contested or enemy territory automatically flags the character being used for PvP combat, and the character cannot be unflagged while in these zones.

The player will remain flagged for five minutes after having left a contested or enemy territory. PvP realms are generally recommended for those who enjoy knowing that they could be attacked at any time.

Blizzard smartly realized that despite their unglamorous appearance, those blades touched a soft spot in the Warcraft community. In total, about blades were encased in those tombs and made available to the public. Knowing that I am holding a very important part of what made that type of experience possible for many thousands of people does have some sort of gravity.

Since then, the prodigal server blades have become a white whale for World of Warcraft collectors. The secondary market is scarce and brutal, with prices routinely crossing the four-figure mark.

Compared to the rest of his collection, the blade can look a little quaint. It is, after all, just a bulky piece of exposed tech, identical to the thousands of hard drives whirring away in Blizzard server bays across the globe. In Vanilla, there were server blades which they gave to individuals after they were retired stored in different data centers, based on local regional time. They will be using the same server infrastructure that is used for BFA.

So no physical blades for each realm. Virtual machines are pointless misrepresentations. A world server isn't a single server, though -- it's a collection of servers. As of , Blizzard had about 9, servers around the world [source: Vivendi ]. When you log on to your "World of Warcraft" account, you do so using an authentication server.

This server verifies your name and password before transferring you to the realm on which you last played. Exactly which portion of the server you access depends on where you logged out of the game. Blizzard hasn't disclosed the exact architecture of its world servers, but based on the game's behavior, several server divisions are clear. Each of the world's three continents -- Kalimdor , the Eastern Kingdoms and Outland -- has its own servers.

There's also a separate server for instances , or the game's dungeons. When a group enters an instance, the game spawns a copy of that dungeon for the group. Other groups and players can't enter it.
