What kind of pickups does santana use

I traded one of my guitars that didn't get much play for this recently:. Messages 6, Having more than one SE Cleaner tones.

Nice looking guitar! Messages I have a Santana SE Orange veneer with trem, the bridge pup is ok Very nice guitar Angstwulf. I have small hands and found that the best feeling neck I have played is the Musicman Axis profile. It is very easy to play chords on,and has humbuckers and whammy bar.

I believe the budget line Sterling models have the same neck profile. The problem for me with the santana wasn't the pickups, tho they ARE rather dark. It was that the guitar itself is very dark and because of that even after trying brighter pickups i just found the guitar too dark to roll the volume off for cleans with any usable degree of chime and brightness. Of course it's about what you want from it, but for me i found it to be good for thick gainy single note stuff and not much else.

I thing the short scale with a set neck mahogany guitar with a trem no less was just too soft and dark for anything but solos. Even after trying larger bleed caps the thing still sounded dull and useless rolling the volume down for cleaner tones. If i ever bought another PRS it would not have a trem and short scale. One of the 2 may be ok but together it;s not a good thing for the versatility i like. If you play mostly clean you may love it as is but for classic rock to cleans via the guitar's controls it was one of the worse guitars i ever owned for that.

Latin-Rock Video Check out the new video for this guitar and percussion-driven song by the leading Santana Tribute and Latin-rock band. This instrument is quite close in tonality to the Gibson SG Guitar, with which he is most often pictured on stage during that period. Note: The SG is an unusual instrument. While it looks cool, the fret-board is stiff, the balance is awkward take your hands off the axe and its headstock falls toward the ground , and the sound is limited.

The Les Paul Special was far from a top of the line guitar, and did not have the beefy richness or warm sustain of the more expensive Deluxe and Custom models. This era of his tone was a little brighter and honkier due to the tonal qualities found in the single coil p pickups. He later transitioned to a Gibson SG with humbuckers and as a result his tone became more mid-rangy and beefier with more power and bite.

He prefers double cut away guitars with 24 frets and humbucking pickups. These are the attributes that his various PRS incarnations over the years have shared. Nowadays, Santana is well known for using his signature model he designed with Paul Reed Smith. If you are looking to get the most authentic and Santana approved gear in order to acquire his sound look no further than this guitar! It features a double cut mahogany body for a full sounding mid range, a neck specification that Santana himself designed, which is slightly larger and provides a smooth playing experience.

It also feature two humbucking pickups, in this case, that were also designed by Santana. Luckily PRS, makes a more affordable, but still amazing, Santana model they actually make two! The first one is the SE Santana Signature. This again features a mahogany, double cut away body, SE pickups that were approved and designed by Santana, 24 frets and a stunning maple top.

It is called the SE Santana Standard. It is a little less flashy than the SE signature mentioned before, most notably by the fact that it lacks a high-grade maple top. It is a very simplistic and affordable guitar but still features the mahogany body, 22 frets, humbucking pickups and approval from Santana himself! If you already have a guitar you enjoy but are looking to upgrade the pickups to something that would be more Santana appropriate, check these options out!

In the early days there was Marshall and there was Fender. He came back out picked up the guitar and took off playing never missing a kick. Was an incredible show. I am 64 and remember it vividly. I came here trying figuring out what pedal he used for it because there has to be a pedal.

I think the actual history of his SG Special will always remain somewhat of a mystery, but the clues are all here. Good work! No string is nearly a tenth of an inch diameter, no less the unwound high E. Great info! Just fyi in and 75 he also played Gibson L-5S guitars live. I have seen photos of him jamming with Eric Clapton playing a red L-5S during their tour that year.

Also there is photo of him, Clapton and John McLaughlin jamming together in McLaughlin is playing an L-5S that he borrowed from Carlos. I think also, one period he used a boss chorus pedal as well. Anyway your effects section is incomplete he used many other effects pedals as well as little Pete Cornish and John Suhr gadgets.

At that time the guitar was finished in what knows as the TV Yellow finish, and it featured two P90 pickups as well as the Maestro tremolo. It featured cherry red finish, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, two P90 single-coil pickups, Grover tuners, ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge and a wrap-around stop-tailpiece. SG Specials that were shipped around that time were not equipped with humbuckers, so Santana had to modify this particular guitar himself.

That being said, it is quite possible that this is the same guitar as the black SG he was using in , just without the white P90s and the tremolo bridge. It originally had a white pickguard, but Santana removed it at some point.

He allegedly gave the guitar to Udo Artist Japanese concert promoter in Notify of. I allow to use my email address and send notification about new comments and replies you can unsubscribe at any time.
